Moving a Statewide Nonprofit to Azure Virtual Desktops and Modern Device Management

Case Study — Nonprofit

At A Glance

This nonprofit serves organizations across Indiana and wanted to move away from on-premises servers entirely, giving staff secure cloud-hosted desktops and a consistent way to onboard and offboard laptops.

The Solution We Delivered

AIS executed the migration in five phases: discovery, implementation, testing, remediation and documentation. AIS built the Azure environment, migrated the database server, and deployed Azure Virtual Desktop with cloud sign-in, automated power schedules and printing. AIS then implemented Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot, silently enrolling existing machines, building configuration, compliance, security and application policies, validating with a pilot group before rolling out organization-wide, and closing with documentation and admin training.

Results & Impact

On-premises servers and database retired in favour of Azure

Secure virtual desktops deployed and verified with end users

All Windows devices enrolled into central cloud management

Two-factor authentication at device sign-in, with unauthorized installs blocked

Full documentation and admin training delivered at handoff

Partnership Moving Forward

AIS maintains the Azure and device management environment under a recurring scope covering patching, monitoring and security oversight.
